Way-to-Go Wednesday: Supporting Your Rival is True Sportsmanship

Premier Athletics Kentucky All Stars - Northern Kentucky

Premier Athletics’ Kentucky All-Stars have had quite a year.

They merged with the Spirit of Kentucky All-Stars in April, and announced a merger with Premier Athletics in Lexington in May.

In June, Midwest Cheer Elite announced that it was opening a new all-star gym in Florence in addition to its original West Chester location and its gym in Toledo, Ohio. That arguably put it in direct competition with Premier — for awards and for business. (These are tough economic times for everyone, and all-star gyms are no exception.)

That’s why I was so happy to see Premier whole-heartedly throw its support behind Midwest after a tragic car accident involving two of its families. The Premier Athletics of NKY Facebook page has been filled with multiple posts offering several different ways to support the families and the gym, including wearing royal blue on Nov. 17th to show support for Midwest Cheer Elite, to donating money at any 5/3 bank for the Morris and Blair family funds, to hosting an open gym fundraiser at their own gym on 11/24 and 12/18 where all proceeds will benefit the families.

Several members of the Premier Athletics organization have also made the royal blue ribbon their profile picture on Facebook in support of the Morris and Blair families, and they also posted the blue ribbon on their page for all their fans to see.

Way to Go, Premier Athletics Park Hills! It was truly touching to see how you went above and beyond to support members of our cheerleading community.

Other area all-star squads have also posted updates to support the families, including Cheer Champion Elite Training Center, CIA of Cincy and Pride Athletics. Did your local gym do anything to help support Midwest or the families affected by this accident? E-mail pictures or stories to lindsay@cheercincy.com

Happy Thanksgiving!
