Spirit of Kentucky, an all-star gym in Florence, will merge with Premier Athletics, the home of the Cincinnati Elite All-Stars. Authorities from both gyms announced the news last week. The new program’s name and colors have yet to be determined. The gym will remain under the ownership of Premier Athletics, which manages 13 gyms across the country.

Premier held an all-star exhibition at its Park Hills location on Tuesday, March 30. The staff all wore T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “Together We Are Premier.” Spirit of Kentucky Owners Paige Thomas and Rosalind Wood were received warmly by the crowd of more than 200 when they were announced.

Spirit of Kentucky split from what was then Kentucky Elite North in 2004. Both parties have expressed enthusiasm about their future together.

“This is exactly the type of merger we have been seeking in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky market in order to achieve the best possible services for your family,” read a memo from Sarah Schneider, general manager of Premier’s Cincinnati location, and Abel Rosa, Premier’s director of cheerleading operations.

“We are excited about creating such a powerhouse in the area!” reads a note on Spirit’s web site.

Schneider will continue to serve as the gym manager, and she will now also work as part of an executive management team composed of herself, Thomas, Wood and Premier’s Kim Steffen.

Premier Athletics is owned by Varsity Inc.
